What we publish

Calculators and guides that explain how business financing is priced. Our goal is to help you understand and compare offers, not to recommend a particular product or provider.

How numbers are produced

Every figure in a guide or worked example is generated by the same calculation engines that power the calculators, not typed by hand. The engines are covered by automated tests with fixed expected results, and the formulas are published on the methodology page.

Sources

  • We rely first on primary sources: regulations, statutes, and publications from the SBA, the IRS, the Federal Reserve and state regulators.
  • Where a primary source isn't yet available, we use reputable secondary sources, such as law-firm client alerts and trade associations, and say so on the page.
  • Every page lists its sources with the date we accessed them.

Review and updates

  • SBA fee schedules are checked before each fiscal year begins on October 1.
  • Tax limits are updated when the IRS publishes its annual inflation adjustments, usually in October or November.
  • The Prime rate is updated after Federal Reserve rate decisions.
  • State law summaries are reviewed at least every six months, and whenever we learn of a change.
  • Each page shows when it was last reviewed.

How content is written

Drafts may be prepared with the help of software, including AI writing tools. Every page is reviewed by the site's editor before publication, and every number comes from our tested engines rather than from the drafting process.

Independence

The site is funded by advertising. Advertisers have no influence over our calculations or content, and we don't accept payment to mention, feature or rank any provider. If that ever changes, for example through affiliate links, we'll disclose it clearly on the affected pages.

Corrections

We correct confirmed errors promptly. Material corrections are recorded in the changelog on themethodology page. To report a problem, contact us.
